F-Gas Regulation
October 5, 2023

Latest F-gas regulation strengthens climate-friendly alternatives

A central component of the regulation is the gradual reduction of the permitted quantities of F-gases, the so-called phase-down. According to this detailed and defined roadmap, the EU member states will have to gradually reduce the available newly produced synthetic refrigerants by 79 percent in the period between 2015 and 2032.

On October 5, 2023, the negotiators in the EU Parliament agreed on an amendment to the F-Gas Regulation. This amendment increases the pressure to act. This is because the F-Gas Regulation, which came into force on 26.01.2024, will pose even greater challenges for many operators of refrigeration systems. The shortage of available refrigerants will have a variety of effects. As a result of the regulation, fewer HFCs will be available on the market in future, which will lead to a significant price increase. The demand for alternatives will increase.

Our companies have been well prepared for this scenario in the past by increasingly relying on natural refrigerants such as ammonia, carbon dioxide or propane for years. In order to be able to make a decision in the interests of the user and operator, the most important properties of the various refrigeration systems and refrigerants should first be clarified with regard to temperature ranges, safety, structural requirements for the installation site, availability, cost-effectiveness, ease of servicing and system technology. Our experts will be happy to assist you with planning and implementation. Just send an e-mail to f-gase-verordnung@bluu-unit.de.
